Sri Lankan Team Arrives in France for Cannes Young Lions Festival

Ogilvy has assembled its largest-ever team to represent Sri Lanka at the prestigious Young Lions Competition in Cannes, France, scheduled for June 22nd.

The Young Lions Competition is a highly esteemed platform recognized globally as a testing ground for creative individuals under 30. It gathers national winners from across the globe to compete in various categories, including PR, Media, Digital, Film, Print, and Design.

This year, the Sri Lankan team will face off against some of the brightest young creative talents from around the world in what is considered one of the most challenging and demanding competitions within the creative sector.

Ogilvy Makes History with Its Representation

Among the national representatives, six participants hail from Ogilvy Group Sri Lanka, marking the largest representation by a single agency from the country in this competition’s history.

The Ogilvy team comprises a diverse group of talents. Sachintha Gunawardena and Hasith Dilakshana will compete in the Media category, while Azraa Saldin and Nirmala Premachandra will represent Sri Lanka in PR. Afridi Hussain and Maveena Manickam will showcase their skills in the Film category. Their selection for this global event comes after their victories in the Media, PR, and Film categories during the Young Lions Sri Lanka Competition held in April.

In preparation for their participation in Cannes, the Sri Lankan team has engaged in rigorous training, supported by experienced mentors from Ogilvy Group Sri Lanka, in collaboration with Metal Factor, the local organizer of the Young Lions Competition.

About the Cannes Young Lions Competition

During the competition, the Sri Lankan team, along with other international groups, will receive a real-world brief from a non-profit or purpose-driven organization, typically focused on significant social or environmental issues. They will have only 24 hours to devise a comprehensive campaign in response to the brief.

Entries in the Media category must showcase an insight-driven strategy that effectively utilizes various channels to enhance engagement. The PR teams will concentrate on formulating a persuasive narrative and campaign concept that can influence public perception and action. Those competing in Film will be tasked with creating an original 60-second film that aligns with the provided brief.

Participants will operate from the dedicated Young Lions Competition Hub at the Cannes Lions School, a creative environment designed to foster idea generation and innovative thinking. Upon completion, the campaigns will be evaluated by the Young Lions Jury, composed of senior creatives from prominent global agencies and organizations.

The Young Lions Competition is held concurrently with the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, the preeminent gathering for professionals in the creative communications field, immersing competitors in award-winning projects, groundbreaking ideas, and interactions with leading international creatives and marketers.
