Stock Market Experiences First Downturn of 2026

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) experienced its first market decline of 2026 on January 12, as the All Share Price Index (ASPI) decreased by 45.79 points during the trading session. By the end of the day, the ASPI had settled at 23,608.51 points.

This downturn marks the initial instance of the year where stock market indices have shown a decline. Concurrently, the S&P SL20 Index saw a slight decrease of 0.57 points, closing at 6,502.45.

The market turnover for the day reached Rs. 5.21 billion.
