Strategic Dialogue Aims to Enhance the Competencies of the Inland Revenue Department

Yesterday afternoon, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake convened a meeting with officials from the Department of Inland Revenue at the Presidential Secretariat.

The discussions primarily centered on initiatives designed to strengthen the capabilities of the Inland Revenue Department, with a focus on expanding tax revenue, enhancing tax compliance, and recovering overdue tax payments. The advancements made by the department up to this point in 2026 were also evaluated.

In-depth conversations took place regarding the necessary institutional restructuring and digital transformation needed to meet these goals.

The meeting also reviewed the implementation of a national e-invoicing system and the associated legal frameworks. President Dissanayake emphasized the importance of completing the entire project within the designated timeline.

Joining the president at the meeting were Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Nishantha Jayaweera, Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Commissioner General of Inland Revenue, R.P.H. Fernando, along with several senior officials from the department.
