Sun Siyam Pasikudah Unveils Exclusive Floating Dining Experience on Pasikudah Bay’s Waters

The first solar-powered floating dining platform on the east coast of Sri Lanka has been unveiled, offering a unique culinary experience inspired by the flavors of the eastern coastline.

Sun Siyam Pasikudah, part of the Privé Collection under the Maldivian-owned Sun Siyam Resorts, has introduced the Aqua Lounge, a floating dining platform situated on the open waters of Pasikudah Bay. This platform is distinct as it is the sole floating ocean dining venue in the bay, the only solar-operated dining platform along Sri Lanka’s eastern coast, and the only fine-dining option on the Indian Ocean in this region, setting it apart from other island venues located on lakes or rivers.

Covering an area of 400 square feet, the platform can be accessed via catamaran from the resort’s beachfront. Constructed using sustainable timber and recyclable barrels, it operates entirely on solar energy. These choices underscore the resort’s dedication to sustainability through its Sun Siyam Cares initiative, which is recognized by Travelife Gold and encompasses areas such as renewable energy, ocean conservation, waste management, and community involvement across all properties within the Sun Siyam group.

The Aqua Lounge is not only notable for its location but also for its underlying principles. The use of eco-friendly materials and solar power reflects a broader commitment to sustainability that influences the resort’s operations on land. This floating platform embodies the resort’s mission to protect the ocean and its environment.

The dining experience features a seven-course menu that highlights the fresh and vibrant flavors of the eastern coastline. Guests can enjoy sunset cocktails as the evening light dances across the bay, and the platform remains open for diners wishing to savor their meal accompanied by the soothing sounds of the water. For a more intimate experience, a champagne breakfast on the platform can be arranged upon request, providing a serene way to start the day on the water.

In addition to catering to guests, the platform serves a significant community role, which the team regards as equally essential. As part of the resort’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, local schoolchildren from nearby villages are regularly invited to the platform. This initiative aims to engage them in meaningful conversations about the bay they live by, the coral reef below it, and the importance of environmental stewardship, extending the resort’s values beyond its immediate vicinity.

“Pasikudah Bay is remarkable, with its gentle curves and shallow waters, especially as the evening light plays upon it,” commented Arshed Refai, General Manager of Sun Siyam Pasikudah. “Our goal was to immerse guests in this natural beauty—not just by viewing the ocean from the shore but by dining directly on it. The menu reflects the story of our coast, featuring local ingredients and the fishermen who supply them, as well as the traditional techniques that are part of this region. This is the authentic east coast experience we aspire for our guests to take away.”

Sun Siyam Pasikudah boasts 34 modern pavilions situated along one of Sri Lanka’s most pristine coastal areas. The resort has prioritized sustainability in its daily operations, implementing measures such as solar and LED lighting, water conservation strategies, and a waste management system focused on reduction, recycling, and composting. As a member of the Privé Collection, the boutique segment of The House of Siyam, it caters to travelers seeking a distinctive destination that offers more than just scenic beauty. The floating platform exemplifies this philosophy, providing a dining experience uniquely suited to this bay and its stretch of the Indian Ocean.
