A launch ceremony for the Paperless Customs Declaration Process will take place today, October 1, at the Sri Lanka Customs Auditorium. This initiative, a collaborative effort between the Revenue Administration Reforms and Modernisation Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat and Sri Lanka Customs, marks a significant advancement in the operations of Sri Lanka Customs. The event will be attended by Deputy Minister of Economic Development Nishantha Jayaveera and Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
The Paperless Customs Declaration Process is a component of the Government’s initiative to modernize public services through digital transformation as part of its economic reform strategy. This new system aims to streamline customs clearance, making it more efficient, quicker, and transparent.
Starting from October 1, 2026, all importers and declarants will be mandated to provide their customs declarations and pertinent documents with a valid digital signature. Submissions made through the former system will no longer be accepted.
A notable aspect of this new system is its ability to identify any modifications made after a digital signature has been applied, significantly minimizing the chances of fraudulent activities and corruption.
