SpectrifyAI, an innovative AgriTech startup from Sri Lanka, has announced the official launch of its groundbreaking AI-powered platform for the tea industry, set to debut in January. This cutting-edge technology, certified by the prestigious Tea Research Institute of Sri Lanka (TRI), aims to revolutionize traditional tea quality testing and introduce a new era of data-driven decision-making for Ceylon Tea.
For the past three years, SpectrifyAI has been dedicated to digitizing and modernizing the agricultural sector, beginning with Sri Lanka’s most famous export. The company’s extensive research and development efforts, supported by exclusive validated datasets from the Sri Lankan tea industry, have resulted in a platform capable of measuring critical quality parameters with unmatched speed and precision. These models are uniquely trained for tea quality assessment, making them a global first.
Traditionally, the ISO standard for moisture testing in tea involves a lengthy 6-hour oven-drying process. SpectrifyAI’s solution revolutionizes this method by providing results with over 95% accuracy in less than 15 seconds. The platform evaluates not only moisture but also Total Polyphenols (TPP), a vital quality indicator, as well as overall leaf quality. Additionally, it offers AI-powered supply-chain traceability, essential for maintaining quality and transparency from leaf to cup.
“Following years of rigorous collaboration with TRI, this endorsement validates our technology’s real-world performance and reliability,” stated Jeevan Gnanam, CEO of SpectrifyAI. “SpectrifyAI aims to transform supply chains into value chains. This certification not only affirms our device’s scientific credibility but also empowers tea producers, factories, brokers, and exporters with data they can trust, instantly.”
The impact of this technology on Sri Lanka’s tea industry is significant. While Kenya produces over 450,000 metric tons of tea annually, Sri Lanka’s strength has always been in the quality, rather than the volume, of its tea. SpectrifyAI’s platform will enable Sri Lanka to further enhance its global reputation for premium teas, helping the nation achieve higher prices and increased global competitiveness.
The certification from the Tea Research Institute (TRI), the official authority for tea science, validation, and standards in Sri Lanka, attests to the scientific accuracy and industry acceptance of SpectrifyAI’s technology. This endorsement by the highest authority on tea quality in the nation highlights the transformative potential of this innovation. “We are pleased to confirm the successful validation of your portable NIR devices for the rapid determination of moisture content in black tea,” remarked Dr. M A B Ranatunga, Director of TRI. “The validation trial confirmed the devices’ capability to accurately measure moisture content.”
While the initial focus is on tea, SpectrifyAI has ambitious plans for the future. The company is already conducting research and development to adapt its technology for other agricultural products, including coffee. This expansion will further establish Sri Lanka as a hub of AgriTech innovation.
