UK tourists top spenders in Sri Lanka

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – Tourists from the United Kingdom are among the highest spenders in Sri Lanka, with an average daily expenditure of 209 US dollars, according to data released by Tourism Minister Vjitha Herath.

Presenting the figures to parliament, Minister Herath stated that UK visitors spend between 154.82 and 263.28 dollars per day during their stay in the country.

German tourists follow closely, with daily spending ranging from 142.27 to 222.82 dollars, while Russian visitors spend between 163.84 and 201.95 dollars a day. Chinese tourists have a daily expenditure between 155.17 and 190.55 dollars, and Indian tourists spend between 154.60 and 176.49 dollars per day.

Sri Lanka recently revised its estimates for daily tourist spending after conducting a detailed survey, reflecting changes in travel patterns and expenditure.

The country anticipates earning nearly 3,000 million US dollars from tourism by the end of the year, Minister Herath added.
