In a significant collaboration between Union Bank, the University of Moratuwa, and the National Innovation Agency, the National Entrepreneurship Development Programme (NEDP) was launched in 2024. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the skills of entrepreneurs and individuals with promising startup concepts, aligning with the goals of the Union Bank School of Social Entrepreneurship. The program focuses on integrating knowledge, innovation, and financial resources to foster the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Thishani Dissanayake, Vice President of Marketing, announced that the third phase of the program has commenced, attracting over 200 current and aspiring business owners. She noted a growing interest in the initiative since its inception, with participants being selected based on specific criteria. Dissanayake expressed enthusiasm about the increased representation from various regions, including the North, demonstrating the dedication of entrepreneurs to enhance their skills and advance their businesses in a competitive environment. New participants had the chance to learn from the success stories of those who completed the program in previous cohorts, as they navigated new opportunities and increased demand for their offerings. Union Bank is proud to support this initiative and extends its gratitude to the University of Moratuwa and the NIA for their ongoing contributions to its success. Dissanayake emphasized that this program provides a valuable, free opportunity for business owners to enhance their skills, reflecting Union Bank’s commitment to giving back to the communities in which it operates.
