The International Institute of Health Sciences (IIHS), Sri Lanka’s premier private healthcare education provider, has introduced Asia’s first Master’s degree in Digital Health. This program is awarded by the University of Surrey, United Kingdom, and represents a major advancement in healthcare education and digital innovation in the region. As healthcare systems globally adopt digital technologies more rapidly, there is an increasing demand for professionals capable of integrating technology, data, and innovation into healthcare delivery and management. This new Master’s in Digital Health is designed to meet this demand by equipping graduates and working professionals with the necessary expertise to lead digital transformation in healthcare systems. Conducted at IIHS in Sri Lanka, the program allows students to obtain a prestigious UK qualification while staying in the region. The curriculum combines academic rigor with practical application, covering topics such as digital health systems, health informatics, data analytics, digital leadership, and emerging healthcare technologies.

The program is tailored for graduates and working professionals holding a bachelor’s degree who wish to enter or advance in the digital health sector. It is particularly suitable for doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals seeking leadership roles in technology-enabled healthcare environments; healthcare administrators and managers driving organizational change; public health and development professionals; as well as IT, data science, engineering, life sciences, and management graduates aiming to build future-focused careers in healthcare innovation. Notably, prior technical expertise is not a prerequisite, making the program accessible to professionals transitioning into digital health leadership roles.

Digital Health is currently one of the fastest-growing sectors globally, with increasing investments seen across hospitals, ministries of health, NGOs, insurance providers, and health technology companies. Graduates of the program can pursue roles such as Digital Health Specialist, Health Informatics Manager, Healthcare Data and Analytics Manager, Telemedicine Program Lead, Digital Transformation Manager in hospitals, Health Technology Project or Product Manager, and Digital Public Health Specialist. The strong global demand enhances employability and offers international career mobility. Commenting on the launch, Dr. Kithsiri Edirisinghe, Chief Executive Officer of IIHS, stated: “Digital Health is essential to the future of healthcare. By delivering Asia’s first University of Surrey Master’s in Digital Health, we are creating opportunities for graduates and professionals to access global careers while strengthening healthcare systems locally and internationally.” Representatives from the University of Surrey emphasized that the program combines academic excellence with real-world relevance to address evolving global workforce needs. The launch underscores IIHS’s role as a regional hub for internationally aligned healthcare education and supports Sri Lanka’s vision of becoming a destination for advanced professional training under the “Study Sri Lanka” initiative.
