FINANCIAL CHRONICLE — A partnership between Vidullanka PLC and India’s Skipper Limited has been identified as the most economical bidder for a high-voltage transmission line project valued at 5.0 billion rupees, which is part of a network development initiative funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), according to a statement from the renewable energy company.
This tender, associated with the National Transmission and Distribution Network Development and Efficiency Improvement Project backed by JICA, involves the construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of 132 kV transmission lines intended for the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
“Although the consortium led by Vidullanka PLC and Skipper Limited has secured the status of lowest bidder, the finalization and official awarding of the contract are contingent upon the successful completion of technical assessments and the subsequent acquisition of the Letter of Award from the contracting authority,” the company noted in a communication to the Colombo Stock Exchange on Tuesday.
The project is expected to be implemented over an 18-month period following the initiation of the contract. Once awarded, Vidullanka will oversee the local execution and project management in partnership with Skipper Limited.
This initiative signifies Vidullanka’s foray into the realm of high-voltage grid infrastructure and transmission line construction, enhancing its current offerings in renewable energy generation, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services, as well as battery energy storage systems (BESS).
