Vietjet has announced that it will provide complimentary Wi-Fi to passengers on all flights operated under the Vietjet brand, including the route from Colombo to Ho Chi Minh City. This initiative comes as part of a collaboration with Galaxy Holdings and Galaxy Telecom, formalized through a partnership with Starlink, the satellite internet service developed and managed by SpaceX. The agreement was signed during a visit by Vietnam’s General Secretary and President, To Lam, to the United States.
The signing ceremony included the participation of senior officials and business leaders from both nations, symbolizing a significant advancement in aviation technology collaboration between Vietnam and the United States.
In the initial rollout, Starlink will be integrated into 120 Vietjet aircraft, comprising 100 Airbus A321 and Boeing 737 jets, along with 20 Airbus A330 planes. Additionally, Vietjet intends to outfit all future aircraft deliveries with high-speed internet, thereby enhancing connectivity across its domestic and international routes, including the Colombo to Ho Chi Minh City flight.
Starlink is expected to provide passengers with high-speed, low-latency internet access, facilitating connectivity over oceans, polar areas, and remote locations. This service will allow travelers to work, enjoy entertainment, and access online resources throughout their flights.
Vietjet’s vision is to transform high-speed inflight Wi-Fi from a luxury feature into a necessary and widely available digital service, making it a standard offering for air travel.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of Vietjet, stated, “With Starlink, passengers will no longer be disconnected while flying. They can remain in touch with family and friends, work, or enjoy their entertainment during the flight. This aligns with Vietjet’s dedication to innovation and our goal of making advanced technologies more accessible to everyone.”
Tim Hughes, Senior Vice President of Global Business and Government Affairs at SpaceX, remarked, “The introduction of Starlink on Vietjet flights will enhance the already reliable connectivity that serves homes and businesses in Vietnam. We are excited to improve the travel experience for Vietjet customers, making their journeys better and more enjoyable.”
This agreement with Starlink signifies the start of a lasting technological partnership between Vietjet and SpaceX. With its modern fleet and ongoing investments in data, artificial intelligence, and skilled personnel, Vietjet is actively creating a digital aviation ecosystem that keeps millions of passengers connected during their travels, including those traveling to and from Sri Lanka.
