Vietjet has announced plans to provide free Wi-Fi for travelers on all flights operated under its brand, including the route from Colombo to Ho Chi Minh City.
In a significant development during Vietnam’s General Secretary and President To Lam’s official visit to the United States, Vietjet, alongside its affiliates Galaxy Holdings and Galaxy Telecom, entered into a strategic partnership with Starlink, the satellite internet service developed by SpaceX. This collaboration aims to offer passengers complimentary, high-speed internet access during their flights.
The agreement was formalized in front of high-ranking officials and business leaders from both Vietnam and the U.S., symbolizing a new era of aviation technology collaboration between the two nations.
Initially, Starlink will be integrated into 120 Vietjet aircraft, which includes 100 Airbus A321 and Boeing 737 jets, as well as 20 Airbus A330 aircraft. Furthermore, Vietjet intends to equip all upcoming aircraft with this high-speed internet service, enhancing connectivity across its domestic and international routes, including the Colombo to Ho Chi Minh City flight.
With Starlink’s fast and low-latency internet coverage that extends over oceans, polar regions, and remote locations, passengers will be able to work, stream media, and remain connected online throughout their flights. Vietjet aims to transform high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi from a luxury service into a standard offering for all travelers.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of Vietjet, emphasized, “With Starlink, air travel no longer equates to being offline. Our passengers will have the ability to stay connected, whether for work, entertainment, or keeping in touch with loved ones. This initiative underscores Vietjet’s dedication to innovation and our goal of making advanced technologies accessible to more individuals.”
Tim Hughes, Senior Vice President of Global Business and Government Affairs at SpaceX, stated, “The rollout of Starlink on Vietjet will enhance the reliable service already available to homes and businesses across Vietnam. We are excited to provide this connectivity solution to Vietjet and its passengers, ensuring that each journey is more enjoyable and seamless.”
This partnership with Starlink signifies the beginning of a sustained technological alliance between Vietjet and SpaceX. With its contemporary fleet and ongoing investments in data analytics, artificial intelligence, and skilled personnel, Vietjet is committed to developing a digital aviation ecosystem that keeps millions of travelers, including those flying to and from Sri Lanka, connected during their journeys.
