A delegation from Hai Dang Global Logistics Company Limited (HDG Logistics) is visiting Sri Lanka from December 20 to 24, aiming to establish partnerships with local firms. This visit, announced by the Vietnamese embassy in Colombo, reflects Vietnam’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with Sri Lanka.
HDG Logistics specializes in providing a range of services to both foreign-invested and domestic companies in Vietnam. Their offerings include warehousing, customs services, and sea and air freight, supporting clients in reaching key markets.
Looking ahead, Vietnam Airlines plans to launch direct flights between Hanoi and Colombo three times a week, beginning in August 2026.
Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director General of the Agency of Foreign Trade at Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, highlighted the potential for the two countries to develop supply chains in sectors such as apparel and footwear. Speaking at a business forum organized by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Hai noted, “For logistics services, we can enhance our sea shipping routes between Vietnam and Sri Lanka. And we can establish regional consolidation partners.”
Hai was part of a high-level delegation to Sri Lanka, led by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang. The discussions emphasized opportunities to collaborate on supply chains and logistics, particularly leveraging Sri Lanka’s position as a leading transshipment hub in the region.
According to To Ngoc Son, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Market Development at Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, Sri Lanka’s major transshipment port could help Vietnamese firms reduce trade costs. He noted that Sri Lanka could serve as a gateway for Vietnam to access South Asian and Middle Eastern markets. “This can constitute one of the important pillars in our two countries’ wish to increase the volumes of trade over the next three to five years,” Son stated at the Vietnam-Sri Lanka business forum.
These business exchanges are supported by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and its Greater Mekong Business Council. Ambassador of Vietnam to Sri Lanka, Trinh Thi Tam, encouraged Sri Lankan businesses to contact the embassy in Colombo for connections with Vietnamese companies. “The Embassy is happy to receive any questions from you. We are always open to welcome any businessmen from Sri Lanka to come to the Embassy and discuss with us any proposals or recommendations for further cooperation,” she said.
Vietnam exported goods worth $430 billion up to November 2025, while imports totaled $409 billion, according to the Vietnamese National Statistics Office.
Economists have observed that Sri Lanka has not fully capitalized on its geographic advantages, noting that improved utilization of its location could significantly boost the country’s economic growth.
