In 2024, Gunawardena achieved the titles of National and SLARDAR Champion, while also finishing fifth in the Indian Supercross championship, representing the Gujarat Trailblazers in the Indian Supercross Racing League. His extensive experience in both Sri Lankan and international racing adds significant depth to his participation at Minneriya.

Rajeev Chandrakumar, CEO of Yamamoto Motor Corporation (Private) Limited, remarked, “Today signifies another significant milestone in Yamamoto’s journey as Jacques Gunawardena brings our brand to the track at Gunner Supercross. For us, motorsport transcends mere speed and performance; it embodies the passion, resilience, and ambition that propel our company forward. The same dedication that drives us to the racetrack is mirrored in our endeavors to broaden our motorcycle offerings, enhance our showroom and service networks, and cultivate enduring relationships with riders throughout Sri Lanka. We take pride in supporting Jacques in this event and look forward to continuing our journey with the motorcycle community in Sri Lanka.”

For Yamamoto, race day serves as a bridge connecting the competitive essence of motorsport with the company’s extensive motorcycle journey in Sri Lanka. Offering a diverse range of models through its VOGE, LIFAN, and ZONSEN brands, Yamamoto caters to various riding needs including daily commuting, touring, adventure, and high-performance riding. The company also operates eight showrooms and a dedicated spare parts and service center in Nawala, ensuring comprehensive support for customers beyond the initial purchase.

Yamamoto remains committed to expanding its motorcycle portfolio, enhancing showroom presence, and bolstering after-sales support. Its involvement in motorsport is an integral part of this broader strategy to forge lasting connections with riders and motorcycle enthusiasts nationwide.

As attention shifts to Gunawardena’s performance in the MX 250cc Open and MX 125cc categories at Gunner Supercross, race number 99 symbolizes Yamamoto’s journey from the road to the racetrack.
