A significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s digital payments evolution was marked at Cinnamon Life as the Commercial Bank of Ceylon celebrated achieving 100,000 Google Pay transactions within just six weeks of launching the service for its Visa cardholders in the country.

This achievement goes beyond mere numbers, highlighting the swift adoption of secure, contactless mobile payments and the increasing consumer confidence in a cashless future, according to the Bank. The event represented a historic moment where Commercial Bank, in collaboration with Visa and Google, pioneered the next phase of digital payments in Sri Lanka, offering a blend of global connectivity, convenience, and strong security in one seamless experience.

As the first bank in Sri Lanka to partner with Google and Visa to facilitate Google Pay, Commercial Bank has introduced a world-class mobile payment solution, trusted by millions globally, providing its customers with a significant first-mover advantage. The landmark 100,000th transaction was completed by Mr. S. Uddeeptha Gajasinghe, who was invited to the celebration and honored with a commemorative plaque and gift vouchers to commemorate the occasion.

This accomplishment underscores the successful integration of Google’s user-friendly interface, Visa’s reliable global network and advanced tokenization technology, and Commercial Bank’s strong digital banking ecosystem, representing a bold step forward in shaping the future of cashless payments in Sri Lanka, the Bank stated.
