Sri Lanka Explores the Feasibility of Introducing Skydiving Adventures

A meeting to explore the feasibility of introducing skydiving activities in Sri Lanka took place at the Ministry of Defence on February 5. The session was chaired by Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd).

During the meeting, representatives from Skydive Sri Lanka delivered a comprehensive presentation on skydiving. They highlighted its potential benefits as an adventure tourism activity and outlined the proposed operational aspects.

The discussion centered on the prospects of establishing skydiving as a new tourism attraction in Sri Lanka and its potential contribution to the country’s tourism sector. The Defence Secretary underscored the importance of identifying potential bottlenecks and challenges associated with promoting skydiving activities in the region.

He instructed officials to thoroughly examine regulatory, safety, operational, and other related issues to assess the overall feasibility of introducing skydiving in Sri Lanka. Furthermore, he directed that the findings be reviewed and brought up for further discussions in due course.

Senior officials from the Civil Aviation Authority, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, along with representatives from Skydive Sri Lanka, participated in the discussion.
