In February 2026, Colombo experienced a significant decline in food inflation, which contributed to an overall reduction in consumer price pressures, as reported by the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS). The latest figures indicate that the year-on-year (YoY) headline inflation, as measured by the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI, 2021=100), decreased to 1.6% in February, a drop from 2.3% in January.
On a YoY basis, food inflation saw a substantial decrease to 0.2% in February, down from 3.3% in January. This suggests a notable moderation in food price increases during the month. In contrast, non-food inflation rose to 2.3% in February, up from 1.8% in January, indicating slightly stronger price pressures in non-food categories.
