Out of our total 1,593 km railway track, only 478 km remain operational, which is approximately 30% of our network.
Affected Lines:
• Colombo-Badulla Line: Open till Rambukkana, with bus transport available for Kandy to Colombo sector
• Northern Line: Polgahawella to KKS, Gal Oya to Trinco, and Gal Oya to Batticaloa lines are out of commission
• Matale Line: Peradeniya to Matale line is closed
• Puttalam Line: Ragama to Puttalam line is operational up to Naththandiya
Operational Lines:
• Coastal Line: Colombo to Beliatta
• Kelani Valley Line: Maradana to Avissawella • Main Line: Colombo to Ambepussa
• Puttalam Line: Colombo to Naththandiya
Restoration efforts are underway, with teams working to repair damaged tracks and infrastructure. The Indian company that upgraded the Northern Line with Indian aid has agreed to help with repairs. We expect the Rambukkana – Kurunegala line to reopen soon
