Sri Lanka’s 42nd Auditor General, L S I Jayarathna, has officially received her letter of appointment, as announced by the President’s Media Division. Jayarathna, who previously served as the most senior female Deputy Auditor General at the National Audit Office, has achieved a significant milestone with her new role.
The Constitutional Council, which includes the opposition leader and recently appointed three new members, unanimously approved her appointment. Notably, the council had previously rejected four other candidates recommended by President Anura Dissanayake.
Jayarathna makes history as the first woman to be appointed as the Auditor General in Sri Lanka. Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Commerce (Special) degree and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
