Sri Lanka awards Litro cylinder contract to Thailand-based SMPC

The Cabinet of Sri Lanka has approved the awarding of a contract for the procurement of gas cylinders for the state-owned Litro Gas Lanka Limited to Sahamitr Metal Pressure Containers (SMPC) Public Co. Ltd, a manufacturer based in Thailand. The contract will cover the supply of cylinders for the period from 2025 to 2027, according to an official government document.

To fulfill Litro Gas Lanka Limited’s requirements, international competitive bids were invited from suppliers registered with the Sri Lanka Standards Institution. The procurement is for four types of LPG cylinders, supplied without valves, for use during the specified period.

After evaluating six submitted bids, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the awarding of the contract to Sahamitr Metal Pressure Containers Public Co. Ltd. The contract includes the supply of 120,000 cylinders of 2.3 kg, 185,000 cylinders of 5 kg, 450,000 cylinders of 12.5 kg, and 7,000 cylinders of 37.5 kg.

According to the Cabinet decision, SMPC was selected as the lowest bidder based on the recommendation of the higher standing procurement committee.
